Answer 1 :
I am a nurse here in Honolulu, though I have never done a travel assignment. When I moved here, there was no such thing! I think the people here are exceptionally nice. I think one thing you may find a bit off putting is that we are a bit behind the mainland in terms of physician - nurse relationships. It is not as collegial as many places. I think it may be a male - female thing with some of the older male Asian docs.
Answer 2 :
Try the Nurse's Forum http://allnurses.com/forums/f143/ You'll love Hawaii

Answer 1 :
Not if you are an American Citizen...Hawai'i is one of the 50 States...Yes if you are non-American
Answer 2 :
As of this year, you need a passport to travel anywhere out of your Country. Make sure you have one, or you won't be able to pass the border.
Answer 3 :
If you live in the U.S., then NO. Honolulu is part of the U.S.(Hawaii)
Answer 4 :
Not unless Hawaii seceded from the Union.....
Answer 5 :
yes if out of country!!!
Answer 6 :
Hawaii is part of the United States, it is the 50th State. If you're traveling from any of the other 49 states then no, you don't need a passport.
Answer 7 :
If you are flying from one of the other 49 states and you are a U.S. citizen or resident, you won't need a passport. If you are a citizen from another country, yes you will. Also, if you will be going on a cruise, you may need a passport even if you are a U.S. citizen as many of the cruise ships are not registered in the U.S. and make stops outside of the U.S. (I know, weird huh?) Hope this helps!
Answer 8 :
considering that Hawaii is the 50th state and you are a U.S. citizen then you don't need a passport. It would be the same as saying I am from Pennsylvania and going to California do I need a passport for that travel. If you are from outside of the US then of course you need a passport. Why do people like to act as if Hawaii is a foreign country?
Answer 9 :
If you are from the US mainland then no you do not need a passport to travel to Hawaii, but if you are from a different country then yes you need your passport to travel into Hawaii

What's the best way to get from Honolulu to the North Shore?
I'm not familiar with Oahu! Traveling to see the Pipe Masters contest this December and found a place to stay in Honolulu. Travel time is not an issue and I don't want to rent a car. What's the bus route like? Are there tours that stop and drop me off there? Any info appreciated.

Answer 1 :
bicycle
Answer 2 :
Your best bet would be to rent a car but if you don't want to do that, you can catch the city bus. Be prepared for a 2 hour bus ride each way (not including time spent waiting for the bus to come once an hour). Good luck!
Answer 3 :
I would say rent a vehicle. Do not catch the bus. The bus takes a long time. Be careful though, do not leave valuables that is within sight of the rental vehicle. There are a lot of thieves out there that target parked vehicles for their valuables, especially tourists. Please be careful and have a good time.
Answer 4 :
Its a very long way to the Pipe. Remember just getting out of Honolulu some times takes over and hour. The bus to the north shore works fine but it takes forever. Many stops and it fights the same traffic. Check with your hotel. They have many tours going literally everywhere. You can probably get there quicker with this method but it will cost just a bit more. But.... really, It really would be worth your while to rent a car. Remember that the Masters timing is not cut in stone. Weather and wave conditions lead to many postponements, so you might spend hours to get there only to find that the days events have been canceled. You can check on the radio every morning early and they will let you know the chances of the contest actually happening that day. So the rent a car, or motorcycle for that matter give you the flexibility that you might need to get there when you want to. Luck with this.
Answer 5 :
Traveler gave the best answer. The Bus is the cheapest route to go. Just depends on how long your paitence can hold out. Because it does take a really long time.
Answer 6 :
catch "the bus" (really the bus company name is "the bus") it costs about 2 bucks one way and it goes all around the whole island, you can catch the bus that goes around the island or just goes straight to the north shore "waialua" My home town

If you know which cruise ship is on this run, you should just be able to view the itinerary on the company's website. However, the great circle track between the two is 3,380 miles.. and if the ship travels the route at a 20 knot average, it would take about 7 days. If the ship goes faster, you could cut about a day off of that

Answer 1 :
2 coconuts, 1 pineapple & 2 guava's Swim there, it's cheaper
Answer 2 :
If I was you to travel to Honolulu by yourself I would save up around $3000 that's just to be safe if anything happens but to go there you can get... Tickets, Hotel, car Included: $800.00 package deal on any website that sells tickets. Priceline.com being one of them. Food, activities, : Save about $500 a week Transportation: cheaper to rent a car with the package then get a taxi over there. Everything is expensive so be ready to spend I was there three times.. 2001, 2003, 2005... So it was expensive then. hope that helps as for another location to visit... if not there... I would take a caribbean cruise much cheaper and everything included in the price and you get to see a lot more places for your money.. Hope this helps you in your quest to find a place to relax. I've done them both so let me know what you think
Answer 3 :
the tix to hawaii are high now,,, i would suggest mexico, cheaper and warm now too.
Answer 4 :
My husband and I live in the Midwest, we flew from Lambert International Airport & our flight was around $1400 roundtrip for both of us. Our hotel well, we own with Wyndham Timeshares so we paid around $2500 in the previous year in ownership. We took $2000 with us cash & used it all. We went to Oahu and it was great; there is alot of sightseeing to do there I highly recommend it. We are planning on going to the Big Island next!

Answer 1 :
$40 / day per person. (You can do it cheaper, but you may not want to.)
Answer 2 :
There's Mc Donalds 5 dlls per person
Answer 3 :
You can do around $40 per day per person, maybe less - here are some suggestions Galaxy Steak House - on Kuhio Ave, can get a big breakfast there for $5 - we ate there several times and were never disappointed! Kalakaua Plate Lunch on Kalakaua Ave - huge portions $7 per person or less South Shore Grill on Monsarrat Ave, just up the street from the zoo - huge plate lunch portions $7 or less (we really loved this one) Big City Diner on Waialea Ave - very affordable, great service, great food! You can also get a hotel room with a kitchenette or even just a mini fridge and microwave - we lived on cereal for breakfasts some days - incredibly cheap - you can keep fruit & veggies in your fridge, or microwave up a snack - affordable in Hawaii is totally doable!

Answer 1 :
Bus would be cheapest, but takes a long time. Rent a car. Would not rent a moped or scooter, roads are fast in some areas and chance of rain.
Answer 2 :
If its only for a day, I would strongly recommend renting a small car. The trip up the coast is amazing and there is a lot that you might want to stop off and see. It's also a long trip, so a moped might get a bit uncomfortable after a while! Also, there are stretches of highway that get a little scary (narrow with big vehicles, and it rains at the drop of a hat, which makes things slippery). For your safety (because I don't think you want to spend your vacation in a body cast!), get a car & have a great time!
Answer 3 :
Helicopter
Answer 4 :
Moped. Car. The Bus (that's what they call it). If you are adventurous, boat

Well, since planes crash a lot, I suggest taking a water ski across the ocean until you reach shore, and then bicycle there. You will get a lot of exercise :)
Answer 2 :
Sometimes camps like that will have arrangements they themselves suggest -- I'd ask there first. Otherwise you need to get on places like Trip Advisor and Expedia and figure out what works best for your budget, dates, etc. Do keep in mind rates change over time both up and down, and even what day of the week (and time of day) someone travels impacts things

It might work okay in the water, but on land the bus is probably a better alternative.
Answer 2 :
You can go all the way from kailua to Waikiki on long board. You just have to be careful by cliffs in Makapuu. If you stay in the trough, you probably have not trouble. Sometimes, Sealife park sets up a netted area for porpoises, but they don't usually bother surfers. They know the rules.
Answer 3 :
im guessing you mean a longboard as in a long skateboard. lol i dont think others knew that. When I lived in hawaii a lot of people road on those as long as they werent going far. so i guess it just depends on where you are going. it is def. good for local trips. goodluck out there!

How long would it take to travel across Honolulu?
It could be driving, walking, plane, or boat. Any form of travel, I just want to know. Also, How long does it take to travel from Honolulu to the four other Hawaiian islands?
Honolulu - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I think you mean the island of Oahu and it takes very little time in a car. I think it was like under an hour by car from city to north shore.
Answer 2 :
Honolulu is a city. Oahu is the island it resides on. You can walk across the city of Honolulu in under a half hour. You can walk from Honolulu to Waikiki in about 45 minutes to an hour. You can fly from the island of Oahu to the island Hawaii (The big island) in about 30 minutes. And as the other answerer mentioned you can drive from Honolulu to The North Shore in about an hour and to Turtle Bay from Honolulu in about an hour and a half or so depending on traffic.
Answer 3 :
One thing that makes it hard to answer your question is defining where, exactly, Honolulu ends & other parts of "the City & County of Honolulu" aka Oahu begins. If it goes from Hawaii Kai on the east to Moanalua on the west, it would probably be about 15 miles, so it would take several hours to walk. As far as driving, anybody that lives here wil tell you that depends on what time of day you leave your house. Non rush hour, you could drive from Hawaii Kai to Moanalua in about 40 minutes, tops. Rush hour? Double that, at least. Once in the air, it takes about half an hour in a commercial jet to get from Oahu to either Kauai or Maui & maybe 45 minutes to get to Hilo. So from Kauai to Hilo, it would be a bit over an hour, but I don't think there are any direct flights like that
